Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and English-proficient Kitchen Officer to manage the back-office responsibilities of our professional kitchen. This role plays a crucial part in supporting the Head Chef and kitchen team by handling all administrative tasks, from managing recipe archives to creating menus and staff schedules. The ideal candidate will be the backbone of kitchen documentation and communication.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Menu and Recipe Management
- Assist the Head Chef in creating menus and banquet menus in English
- Translate menus and recipes from local language to English (and vice versa if needed)
- Organize, type, and archive all recipes, sorted by category and usage
- Format and type recipe explanations for service staff and dining room templates
2. Kitchen Administration
- Prepare daily paperwork, including prep lists, special forms, and internal kitchen documents
- Maintain updated records for food costs, recipe costs, and inventory sheets
- Ensure all kitchen documents are properly saved, backed up, and accessible
3. Staff Scheduling Support
- Assist the chef in organizing the kitchen rota (shift schedule) for all kitchen staff
- Prepare and update weekly and monthly shift plans according to the chef’s instructions
- Help monitor attendance and ensure smooth communication between staff
4. Confidentiality and Communication
- Handle sensitive information (staff records, costs, etc.) with absolute confidentiality
- Act as a point of contact for internal communication between the chef and other departments
- Support kitchen meetings by preparing notes, forms, and follow-up documentation
Key Requirements:
Technical Skills:
- Excellent command of Microsoft Office: Word (typing documents), Excel (cost tracking, schedules), and PowerPoint (presentations if needed)
- Fast and accurate typing skills
- Experience with formatting and archiving digital documents
Language Skills:
- Strong written and spoken English
- Ability to translate documents between English and the local language
- Comfortable communicating with international staff and suppliers
Personal Attributes:
- Highly organized and detail-focused
- Discreet, trustworthy, and professional in handling confidential data
- Strong multitasking and time management abilities
- to work independently but also follow instructions from the chef precisely
Preferred Experience:
- Prior experience in a kitchen, hospitality, or hotel environment is a plus
- Familiarity with culinary terminology and food cost concepts is an advantage
- High level of trust and confidentiality
